All rocks are fractured to some degree or other. Appraisal and development teams often have to decide whether fractures are going to be a significant influence on reservoir storage and producibility. With only discovery or early appraisal well data to work with this can be challenging. In addition, there is sometimes a reluctance to accept that fractures could be important because of the complexities they introduce ( a phenomenon we call 'fracture denial' )
