Thirty years of geothermal experience

More than twenty countries generate electricity from hydrothermal systems and about seventy use hot fluids directly for industrial, agricultural and leisure applications. Installed capacity is increasing rapidly as new resources are exploited and Engineered Geothermal Systems are developed.

GeoScience has thirty years experience in geothermal energy projects at all enthalpy levels and offers a range of services to support projects from the feasibility stage, through planning and exploration,, development drilling and testing, to implementation.

As founders and operators of the UK's Hot Dry Rock geothermal programme in the 1970s and 80s, we are also well placed to support the particular requirements of Engineered Geothermal System development, including well completion, stimulation and monitoring.

We are currently working with Geothermal Engineering Ltd to develop the first EGS power plant in the UK.

We offer a range of services to the geothermal industry:
  • Project evaluation, due diligence and review

  • Specialist EGS advice

  • Well design and drilling engineering

  • Rig specification and selection

  • Wellbore stability analysis

  • Well testing design

  • Stimulation design

  • Commercialisation concepts

  • Fractured Reservoir Characterisation

  • Liaison with government, funding agencies, review bodies and other programmes

  • Heat flow assessment and modelling of thermo-mechanical effects

  Associated Geology and Geomechanics services:
  • Data acquisition and analysis to support risk reduction in prospect evaluation and drilling

  • Mapping and characterisation of key structural controls on productivity

  • Core fracture logging and image log interpretation

  • Fracture mapping field work

  • Correlation of production data with geology

  • Integration of well, seismic and outcrop data to prepare predictive fracture models in support of well planning

  • Determination of in-situ stress regimes and evaluation of its control on stimulation
