Evaporites
Model development for gas cavern storage sites in the UK, including seismic profile interpretation and well data analysis
Outcrop mapping in Spanish Pyrenees for fractured carbonate analog course development
Basements
Fractured basement reservoirs are a particular niche of ours, having started in the 1980’s with drilling logging and testing high heat flow granites for the UK ‘Hot Dry Rock’ geothermal research programme. Since then we have worked in many basement contexts for example the hydrocarbon reservoirs hosted in the Arabian Shield. Some years ago we started a compilation of information and experience for Hydrocarbons in Crystalline Basements and Version 9 can be found at this link. Comments and new contributions are always welcome. In addition, you can download an overview of basement characteristics and issues which was presented at IPTC in Doha in 2009 here.
Image log interpretation, petrography, log and dynamic data integration to model development in Pre-Cambrian metamorphic and granitic rocks (Yemen, UKCS)
Fracture models and parameters, drilling support and geomechanics models in field development programmes in the Arabian shield (Yemen), and UKCS prospects
New venture projects: pre-drill fracture and charging appraisal in Pre-Cambrian basement (UKCS)
Training Courses, Field Trips and Workshops
Outcrop Analogs to Fractured Carbonate Reservoirs: open and private field courses with technical classroom sessions, held in the Spanish Pyrenees since 2006
Naturally Fractured Reservoirs: An Introduction to their Appraisal and Management: open courses held close to the classic fractured Jurassic carbonate exposures of the Somerset coast, UK, since 1998. Customised versions held for individual company G & G teams.
N Scotland and Orkneys: three field trips to analog Devonian and basement exposures for the Clair Development partners (2003 – 2008)
Syria: leader contribution to an operators’ field course (2008)
Kuwait: lead a workshop on basement reservoir appraisal (2009)
Libya: lead a workshop on fractured carbonates held at the Libyan Petroleum Institute, Tripoli (2010)
