Renewable Baseload Power

Geothermal Engineering Limited, in partnership with GeoScience Limited, is developing the first commercial geothermal power project in the UK, at a site in West Cornwall.

The pilot project aims to support a10MW plant supplying electricity to the national grid and providing 50MW of renewable heat to local businesses and the community.

The first of three wells will be drilled in early 2011 to intersect a geological target at a depth of approximately 4,500m, after which evaluation and testing will be carried out.

If results are encouraging, the remaining wells will be drilled in 2012 with a view to commissioning the power plant in 2014.
