Colin Watson

Senior Technical Specialist

Colin graduated from Durham University with a degree in geology and worked for a time as a software engineer before joining GeoScience in 1997 as a geotechnical modeller. He has a love of the great outdoors and enjoys horse riding with his family on and around their farm in the far west of Cornwall.

Tony Batchelor


Tony is the founder, owner and Chairman of GeoScience. He has 44 years’ professional experience in the fields of applied rock mechanics relating to underground excavations, oilfield operations and geothermal engineering. He is the author of numerous technical papers and publications and has served on a number of significant review and advisory boards. He is a recognised international authority on wellbore rock mechanics in oilfield operations and geothermal engineering and was awarded a fellowship by the Royal Institute of Engineers in 2017. Away from work Tony enjoys terrestrial and aerial (drone) photography as well as woodworking.

Nathan Prior

Senior Technical Specialist

Nathan graduated from the Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter) with a degree in Mining Engineering.  He worked offshore as a data engineer in West Africa and the North Sea before joining GeoScience in 2002.  Outside of the office Nathan enjoys surfing, walking and keeping fit.

Zara Parkes

Technical Specialist

Zara joined GeoScience as a member of the Oilfield Geomechanics group in 2007. Prior to that she worked as a PostDoc at Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter) on several projects involving the use of numerical modelling to characterise fractured rock masses. In her spare time Zara loves messing about on the water.

Alex Cook

Technical Specialist

Alex joined GeoScience in 2007 after graduating from Camborne School of Mines (University of Exeter) with a degree in Applied Geology. When not in the office he can usually be found under his car or out enjoying the Cornish coastline.

Lucie Ayotte

Technical Specialist

Lucie was awarded a BSc in Geology from Université de Montréal in 1993 and an MSc in Earth Sciences from Université Laval (Québec City) in 1996. She worked as an exploration and mine project geologist in West Africa, before joining GeoScience in 2001. When she's not at work she can usually be found swimming, cycling or running. Lucie lives in Brisbane, Australia.

Rick Hicks

Technical Specialist

Rick has a degree in Geology from Cardiff University and an MSc in Applied Geotechnics from Camborne School of Mines.  He worked as a data engineer in the North Sea prior to joining GeoScience in 2007. 

Clare Hillier

Technical Specialist

Clare graduated from the University of Southampton in 2018 with a degree in Geology. She spent 2019 travelling through New Zealand and North America before joining GeoScience in 2020. Outside the office Clare spends her time hiking, swimming and knitting
