Critical Shear

Present-day earth stress is often an important influence on fracture apertures and hence permeability. Working with such ‘stress-sensitive’ reservoirs is a major strength at GeoScience because of our strong geomechanics team.

Many of our image log and reservoir model studies have involved estimation of the azimuth and magnitude of the principal stress axes to produce profiles of stress with depth through the overburden and reservoir. This has been applied in Algerian Lower Palaeozoic, and Mesozoic formations, North Sea basement, the Arabian Shield of the Middle East, and active tectonic provinces such as the Zagros of Iraq.

Our blend of geologists and geomechanics engineers have all the skills necessary to tackle this specialist topic with confidence.
