Rick graduated from Cardiff University in 2004 with a degree in Exploration and Resource Geology prior to working offshore in the North Sea for a mudlogging company. He completed a post-graduate degree in Applied Geotechnics from the Camborne School of Mines before joining GeoScience. 

Rick joined the borehole rock mechanics group of GeoScience in 2007, where he completed studies assessing wellbore stability, in-situ stress and sand production. More recently he worked on the deep geothermal project at United Downs as part of the drilling support team from 2018-2019. This experience has shifted his focus towards renewables and now he works primarily in the Deep Geothermal Group at GeoScience, working on subsurface temperature studies.
